"The Lost Art of Primitive Brain Tanning"

(From Deer to Buckskin in a single day)
In this class, we will learn a Native American Method of brain tanning, that makes it possible to skin a deer in the morning and have soft pliable buckskin by nightfall, using both modern and primitive tools. Although this can be accomplished by a single person, it is best achieved by community effort as it was in primitive times.
Two deer skins will be taken from raw to smoked buckskins. In the process we will also learn making and using rawhide cordage and rawhide glue. It should be a wonderful weekend of teaching and learning from one another.
THE INSTRUCTOR:
Frankie Lackey is a Federally Recognized member of the Chickamauga Nation. His Native American heritage includes the Cherokee and Muskogee Creek Indians.
Frankie began learning primitive survival as a young boy and was working as a wilderness survival instructor by the time he was in his late 20s, running 21 day expeditions in the high desert's of southern Idaho.
Frankie continues to learn and to teach at Native American events, Flint knappIng's, Public Schools and Boy Scouts.
TOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED.
Bring scraping and fleshing tools if you already have them.
Primitive camping on-site is included with this class but not required. The class will be conducted at our Basecamp which is a short walk from the parking area.
The portable restroom is located about 100 yards from the class area.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE
Look for the signs directing you to the second driveway on your right next to the large barn and blue dumpster. Pull in past the 'Welcome' sign and park at the entrance of the trail straight ahead.
Grab your gear and follow the signs to Basecamp located about 200 yards down the main trail beyond the red gate. This is where the majority of class instruction will be throughout the weekend.
Set up camp anywhere to the right (west) side of the main trail surrounding Basecamp. We suggest setting up further away from the main fire pit if you prefer to not hear possible late night fireside conversations.
WEEKEND SCHEDULE:
FRIDAY:
2PM: CLASS BEGINS
We typically break for the day around 5-6PM. Unstructured instruction usually continues around the campfire throughout the evening. This allows for additional questions to be presented or more time to complete projects from earlier in the day.
SATURDAY:
8AM: CLASS BEGINS
Instruction will continue at a moderate pass until noon. We will break for a 30-60min lunch break depending on class pass.
This is a relaxed class environment. Restroom & snack breaks are taken at your leisure.
SUNDAY:
8AM: CLASS BEGINS
1PM: CLASS ENDS / PACK UP
